Catherine Cameron
Board Member
Board member Catherine Cameron is a local veterinary surgeon, who from a very young age, has always loved animals, crafting and working on projects in her spare time. She is a keen book binder and novice knitter and has been on the board since At Birkhill House’s creation. Catherine loves being part of the Birkhill community, especially its ethos, the skill sharing that takes place and working together in a small friendly team.
She graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 2003 and moved to the Scottish Borders in 2005. Based in St Boswells, Catherine has previously enjoyed helping to fundraise for the primary school and coordinating certain events during Village week. The veterinary practice she works in is in the heart of the community. As many people did during lockdown, Catherine really appreciated the opportunity to learn a new skill, and attended bookbinding workshops online. She became hooked on all things paper based and learned the art of up-cycling. She really loves seeing how generously donated supplies will inevitably be crafted by ABH makers group attendees in to beautiful goodies for their shop. In her spare time she also enjoys being outdoors with her family including side-kick lurcher, Eris.
Robin Smith
Board Member
Robin is a handweaver and textile designer working from a small weave studio near the Eildon Hills. She has a degree in textile design from Heriot-Watt University. During her studies she was a Fleece and Fibre Intern at At Birkhill House.
She is a postgraduate research student at Glasgow School of Art’s Rural Lab in Forres. Her practice-led research into sustainable textile supply chains is inspired by the woven textiles of Bernat Klein and is in partnership with the Bernat Klein Foundation.
Before she moved to the Borders to become a weaver, she began her career as a literary archivist and was the director of collections and research at the National Library of Scotland.
Lily Jordan
Board Member
Lily is a multi-disciplinary designer and maker. In 2024 she started Lily Carmen Jewellery, an eco-friendly silver jewellery brand, and is currently studying for a Master’s degree in Fashion and Textiles Design with a focus on knitwear. On the board she uses her career experience as a software engineer to contribute to our website and digital infrastructure.
Polly Fraser

Polly Fraser Bsc Agri Business and Marketing
Polly has lived and worked in the Scottish Borders for over 30 years, farming with her husband near Jedburgh.
In her spare time Polly has always been a crafter and gardener, she enjoys working with wool and always has something on her knitting needles. In the garden Polly likes producing vegetables for the family table and soft fruits.
As part of the Board of At Birkhill Polly hopes to be able to help Birkhill to continue to thrive and grow.
