Children's Crafting Workshops
At Birkhill House CIC boasts dynamic and inventive ways for children to explore their creative impulses and express themselves - with the focus on linking crafting to nature and using as many upcycled and reclaimed materials as possible.
Our animals are always a part of the crafting scene here, with a chance to meet the alpacas and cats after the creative work is done... and sometimes even while we're still crafting! In the summer, weather allowing, we sometimes set up our crafting tables right in the alpaca enclosure, and in the winter the cats find the cosy fire in the workshop irresistible...

Once you have booked your child/children in to workshops here, you will need to complete a consent form, which covers permission for your child to attend and participate, photography policy and Covid protocol. You will find this form, which can be completed online or printed out, as well as more information on our terms and conditions and photography policy here.
Art & Animal Sessions 11+
Fridays 3-5pm
Come join us At Birkhill House for a block of sessions of creativity and animal care. Sessions last two hours and will start with some arty fun and then move on to meeting some of the resident animals that help make Birkhill so special. Snack included. Fully funded through the National Lottery. Each block will will offer different creative activities so there will be no duplication for young people wishing to sign up for multiple blocks.
These sessions are made possible by a generous grant from the National Lottery Community Fund.

Busy Elves
Monday 1st December 2025, 12noon-4pm
That's right - "Busy Elves" is back for a fifth year running! Sign up to create ten secret gifts for your family and friends, enjoy a hot chocolate with marshmallows and visit with our gorgeous alpacas and other animals. You will also be able to wrap up all of your completed presents to stop prying eyes. Full list of crafts available for curious parents/carers... but what would be the fun in that??

Waldorf Stars - Family Workshop
Saturday 6th December 2025, 11am-3pm
Learn how to fold these gorgeous, intricate stars.
The festive period can sometimes feel rushed, hectic and expensive. Why not slow things down a bit with an afternoon of relaxed, mindful folding? You will learn how to fold a couple of different styles of these gorgeous Waldorf stars to take away with you and hang in preparation for Christmas. We will also have additional packs of star-making materials to buy on the day.
This workshop is designed for everyone but children under seven will most likely need help with the folding. Parents and carers are asked to stay regardless of the age of accompanied children, as this is not a drop-off session. Snacks and drinks are included.
Please book a space so that we can prepare enough materials for attending numbers but feel free to drop in at any point between 11am-3pm to make your stars.
There will be a chance to browse our shop shelves for Christmas gifts and say hello to our alpacas as well.
